Euclid, OH (October 1, 2024) – A serious incident unfolded on Monday evening when teenagers in a stolen vehicle struck a police officer and led authorities on a pursuit that ended in a crash in Cleveland. The collision resulted in injuries to five individuals, including the officer and several occupants of the stolen vehicle.
According to Euclid Police Chief Scott Meyer, police attempted to stop the stolen vehicle on two occasions. During the first attempt, the vehicle fled, and officers did not pursue it. On the second attempt, the stolen vehicle was stopped at a red light when an officer exited his cruiser and instructed the suspects to exit the vehicle. The driver refused to comply, accelerated, and struck the officer, pushing him aside.
The police then pursued the vehicle into Cleveland, where it ultimately crashed into another car driven by a 56-year-old woman at approximately 7:40 PM at the intersection of East 105th Street and St. Clair Avenue in the Glenville neighborhood.
Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene. The officer, along with three teenagers from the stolen vehicle and the woman from the other car, were transported to local hospitals for medical evaluation and treatment. Fortunately, the officer has since been treated and released, though the conditions of the others involved remain unclear at this time.
In a subsequent investigation, police discovered a loaded 9mm stolen handgun inside the suspect vehicle. The driver, a 15-year-old, was arrested following the chase, while the two passengers, aged 14 and 15, remained at the scene. All three teenagers are expected to face charges in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident, and we hope for a swift recovery for all those injured.
