Forsyth County, NC (December 18, 2024) – An 8-year-old boy tragically lost his life in a multi-car crash on I-40 West near Mile Marker 183 on Saturday evening. The North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the collision, which occurred around 6:10 p.m.
According to troopers, the crash began when a Honda CR-V traveling west failed to reduce speed and struck another vehicle. This initial collision triggered a chain reaction involving multiple cars, including five vehicles that were stopped in the travel lane due to traffic. The Honda CR-V ultimately collided with a Volkswagen Jetta before coming to a stop.
The passenger in the Volkswagen Jetta, an 8-year-old from Lexington, was critically injured and later died at the hospital. Authorities confirmed that impairment was not a factor in the crash, though charges are still pending as the investigation continues.
