Lubbock, TX (December 9, 2024) – A residential fire in Central Lubbock early Monday morning left one individual in critical condition. The blaze occurred near the 1700 block of 42nd St, drawing a swift response from Lubbock Fire Rescue (LFR).
According to LFR, the fire was reported shortly after midnight. Callers alerted authorities that one person might still be inside the burning structure. Upon arrival, crews observed heavy flames emanating from the front of the residence. Firefighters acted quickly to control the fire and conducted a search, locating an individual trapped inside the home.
The person was extricated from the residence, and life-saving measures were initiated at the scene. The individual was then transported to the University Medical Center Burn Unit, where they remain in critical condition.
The LFR Fire Marshal’s Office is actively investigating the cause of the fire. The American Red Cross has stepped in to assist another occupant of the home who has been displaced.
