Zanesville, OH (October 22, 2024) – A tragic accident involving three vehicles occurred on U.S. 22 on October 21, leading to a fatality and prompting an investigation by the Ohio Highway Patrol. The crash took place around 5:12 p.m. near the intersection of East Pike and Brookside Drive in Muskingum County’s Washington Township.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accident involved two commercial vehicles and one passenger vehicle. The first vehicle, a westbound Chevy Cruze, was driven by 31-year-old Harold Ours IV. The second vehicle was a Kenworth tractor-trailer operated by 52-year-old Michael Longfellow. The third vehicle involved was an eastbound Mack trash truck driven by 37-year-old Douglas Wagner.
According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, Longfellow and Ours were traveling in the westbound lanes when Longfellow struck the rear of Ours’ vehicle. Following this collision, Longfellow’s truck veered left of center and collided with Wagner’s eastbound vehicle. The impact caused Wagner’s truck to travel off the road and strike a guardrail. Tragically, Douglas Wagner was pronounced deceased at the scene. Fortunately, Longfellow did not sustain any injuries.
Emergency responders from the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, Washington Township Fire and EMS, Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency, and the Ohio Department of Transportation were on the scene to assist with the aftermath of the crash.
