York County, SC (December 23, 2024) – A tragic multi-vehicle crash on Saturday evening left one person dead and several others injured. The collision occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on SC Highway 5 near Estate Drive, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Reports indicate that a disabled 2024 Honda Ridgeline and a 2017 Jeep Cherokee were stopped in the southbound lanes of the highway. A 2015 Nissan Altima, also traveling southbound, collided with the stationary Honda, pushing it into the Jeep. The impact caused the Jeep to overturn and strike two pedestrians standing in a nearby median.
Both pedestrians were transported to a local hospital, where one tragically succumbed to their injuries. The other pedestrian is currently receiving treatment. The driver of the Jeep and two occupants of the Nissan Altima also sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for care.
The crash remains under investigation by South Carolina Highway Patrol as they work to determine the factors leading to the collision.
