Yakima, WA (November 12, 2024) – A tragic accident on Monday evening claimed the life of a 49-year-old woman who was struck while crossing Fruitvale Boulevard on her bicycle. The crash occurred in the 1800 block of Fruitvale Boulevard at approximately 5:50 p.m., according to Yakima Police Department Sergeant Mark Williams.
Authorities report that the woman failed to yield to an oncoming car when crossing the roadway, resulting in the collision. She was transported to a nearby hospital immediately after the crash, where she was pronounced dead. The Yakima County Coroner’s Office is withholding the victim’s identity until her family is notified.
The driver of the car involved underwent a field evaluation and showed no signs of impairment. Police have stated that the driver will not be cited due to the bicyclist’s failure to yield.
