Yakima County, WA (September 23, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred late on the night of September 21, 2024, when a 32-year-old man from Wapato was struck and killed by a vehicle on State Route 97. According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the accident took place just south of Lateral 1, approximately two miles north of the Wapato city limits.
Reports indicate that the driver, who is from Yakima, left the roadway and collided with Joe Sandoval, who was walking northbound along the highway at the time of the accident. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but unfortunately, Sandoval succumbed to his injuries.
The WSP has stated that charges are pending against the driver involved in the incident, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
