Winston-Salem, NC (December 22, 2024) – A man has died following a two-vehicle crash on Friday morning, December 20, in the 2000 block of Pope Rd. The Winston-Salem Police Department responded to the collision around 8:15 AM.
According to the initial investigation, a Volkswagen traveling on Pope Rd crossed the double yellow line and collided with a Mazda traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as Ronald Atwood, sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash. Despite efforts by medical personnel, he later died at the hospital.
The driver of the Mazda was also injured and transported to the hospital for treatment. Their current condition has not been disclosed. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the crash.
