Winnebago Township, MN (February 4, 2025) – A collision involving a school bus and a Chevy Impala occurred on Minnesota Highway 76 at Cabbage Ridge Dr in Winnebago Township, Houston County, on Monday afternoon.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash was reported at approximately 4:00 p.m. A 2006 Bluebird school bus, traveling westbound on Cabbage Ridge Dr, collided with a 2008 Chevy Impala, which was heading southbound on MN Hwy 76.

Emergency responders, including Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Caledonia Ambulance, and Eitzen Fire, arrived at the scene. The school bus, driven by 70-year-old Terry Paul Schuldt of Caledonia, had three students on board at the time of the crash. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the students or the bus driver.

The driver of the Chevy Impala, 28-year-old Anna Michael Becker of Dorchester, IA, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Gundersen Hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that both drivers were wearing seat belts and that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The road conditions were reported as dry at the time of the collision. Officials are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim, and we are grateful that no students were harmed.

School Bus Accidents in Minnesota

School bus accidents are uncommon but can have serious consequences when they occur. In Minnesota, buses frequently transport students across rural and urban areas, making safety a top priority. Though school buses are built for safety, collisions can still result in injuries, particularly to other vehicles involved.

When accidents like this occur, driver negligence, road conditions, and intersection right-of-way violations are often contributing factors. While school buses are designed to withstand impacts, passenger vehicles like the Chevy Impala may experience significant damage and injuries in such collisions.

Minnesota follows a no-fault insurance system, meaning that injured drivers must seek initial compensation from their Personal Injury Protection (PIP) insurance. However, if injuries are significant, additional legal action may be pursued to recover further damages.

Anyone injured in a bus-related crash should seek medical attention and consider consulting with legal professionals to understand their rights. Holding at-fault parties accountable is essential for ensuring road safety and justice for victims.
