Windham County, VT (January 14, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle crash on Vermont Route 9 claimed the life of a driver Monday morning, according to Vermont State Police. The collision occurred shortly after 6 a.m. near MacArthur Rd, leaving one dead and two others injured.
Authorities identified the deceased driver as 23-year-old Marcus Lapointe of Auburn, MA. Lapointe’s vehicle collided with a Jeep driven by a Jacksonville, VT man, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger in the Jeep, also from Jacksonville, was transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Photos from the scene showed significant damage, with the Jeep bearing a Vermont license plate crashed into the side of a sedan with a Massachusetts license plate. The roadway was wet at the time of the crash, which may have been a contributing factor.
Vermont Route 9 was closed for several hours as investigators processed the scene and crews cleared debris. The roadway reopened at noon, according to the Wilmington Police Department. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet indicated if charges will be filed.
Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Marcus Lapointe during this difficult time. We also wish the injured individuals a swift recovery.
