Winchester, NH (November 19, 2024) – A pedestrian sustained serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle Friday afternoon at the intersection of Richmond Rd and Scotland Rd, according to Winchester Police Capt. Charles Rataj.

Jason Sullivan, 40, of Winchester, was struck by a Toyota RAV-4 driven by a local Winchester woman around 5:00 p.m. Emergency responders arrived promptly, and Sullivan was airlifted to Baystate Medical Center in Massachusetts for treatment. Speaking from the hospital, Sullivan reported undergoing surgery for a leg injury, with a second procedure scheduled in the coming days. He expressed that he is recovering well.

Capt. Rataj stated that police are still investigating the crash, noting the absence of a crosswalk at the intersection and uncertainty about Sullivan’s exact position in the roadway at the time of the collision.

The incident is under active investigation. Our thoughts are with Jason Sullivan as he continues his recovery.

Pedestrian Accidents in New Hampshire

Pedestrian accidents, like the one involving Jason Sullivan at Richmond Rd and Scotland Rd, are alarming reminders of the dangers pedestrians face, especially in areas lacking dedicated crossings. In New Hampshire, these incidents often occur at intersections where drivers may not anticipate pedestrian activity.

The absence of crosswalks at intersections can increase risks for both pedestrians and drivers, as it may lead to confusion or reduced visibility. Pedestrians are urged to exercise caution, particularly in areas with limited safety infrastructure, while drivers should remain alert and yield to pedestrians where appropriate.

For victims of pedestrian accidents, the road to recovery can be long and challenging, involving medical treatments, rehabilitation, and potential legal processes. Seeking professional guidance and understanding one’s rights can help alleviate the burden and provide a clear path toward recovery.
