Wimauma, FL (November 28, 2024) – The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is actively searching for the driver of a pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run incident that left a 64-year-old pedestrian seriously injured on Tuesday evening. The crash occurred around 6:24 p.m. on SR-674, just east of 4th St.
According to FHP, the pedestrian was walking eastbound in the eastbound lane of SR-674 when he was struck by a black 2002-2008 Dodge Ram pickup truck. The impact of the collision sent the pedestrian into the path of an oncoming Cadillac XTS, resulting in a second crash.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and airlifted the injured pedestrian to a nearby hospital for treatment of his serious injuries. The driver of the Cadillac remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. However, the driver of the Dodge Ram fled the scene immediately following the crash.
Surveillance video has provided authorities with images of the vehicle and its driver, and FHP is urging anyone with information about the incident or the driver’s identity to come forward. The search for the suspect is ongoing as investigators work to piece together more details about the crash.
