Wilmington, DE (January 20, 2025) – A devastating house fire on the 1700 block of Newport Gap Pike left two individuals critically injured on Saturday afternoon. The incident was reported around 2:48 PM, prompting a response from the Cranston Heights Fire Company and other mutual aid fire companies.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames emanating from the two-story home. Crews immediately began efforts to control the blaze while conducting a search for occupants. Despite their rapid response, two individuals sustained critical injuries in the fire.
Lieutenant Abigail Haas, Public Information Officer for the New Castle County Paramedics, confirmed the injuries, identifying a 71-year-old female treated on-site for burns and smoke inhalation before being transported to the hospital in critical condition. A 63-year-old male also suffered burns and potential smoke inhalation and was transported in critical condition.
Firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the fire and remained on scene to address lingering hot spots and ensure the blaze was fully under control. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
