Wilmington, DE (December 06, 2024) – A fatal pedestrian crash occurred last evening on Governor Printz Blvd near Downing Drive, resulting in the death of a 58-year-old woman from Wilmington. The incident took place around 5:31 PM when a 2021 Tesla Model 3, traveling westbound, struck the pedestrian as she attempted to cross the roadway. The location where the pedestrian was crossing does not have a marked crosswalk, and the area is poorly lit, with no streetlights nearby.
The woman was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead from the injuries she sustained in the crash. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of family members. The driver of the Tesla, a 31-year-old man from Claymont, was not injured in the incident.
The Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. As of now, there has been no indication of impairment or fault on the part of the driver. Authorities are urging pedestrians to be cautious when crossing unmarked roads, especially in areas lacking proper lighting.
Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased woman, and we extend our deepest condolences during this difficult time.
