Fatal Accidents in North Carolina
Serious crashes like this one are a stark reminder of the dangers of speeding and impaired driving. According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, excessive speed is a factor in nearly 30 percent of all fatal crashes statewide, while alcohol-related crashes result in hundreds of deaths each year.
Seatbelt use is also critical in reducing fatalities. Studies show that occupants ejected from vehicles are significantly more likely to suffer fatal injuries. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that proper seatbelt use can reduce the risk of serious injury or death by nearly 50 percent in crashes involving rollovers or ejections.
