Wilkes County, NC (October 15, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Monday, October 14, around 7 PM, involving Lester Lee Whisenhunt, who was directing traffic after his vehicle became partially stuck on Clingman Rd at Bethel Rd. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP), Whisenhunt, 48, of Elkin, put on a reflective jacket to assist with traffic control when he was struck by a northbound Ford.
Reports indicate that Whisenhunt was in the northbound lane when the collision occurred. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but unfortunately, Whisenhunt was pronounced dead at the site of the accident. The driver of the Ford was not injured, and NCSHP has stated that charges are pending against him as the investigation continues.
