Wichita, KS (November 21, 2024) – A 48-year-old woman was left in extremely critical condition after being struck by a vehicle Thursday morning in west Wichita. The accident occurred around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Central and West St.
According to Capt. Aaron Moses with the Wichita Police Department, the woman was crossing in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a southbound SUV. Emergency responders arrived promptly, but the woman was unresponsive while being transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with authorities as they investigate the circumstances of the collision. Preliminary findings suggest that the woman was using the crosswalk when the incident occurred, but the investigation is ongoing to determine contributing factors.
Traffic in the area was briefly disrupted as officers documented the scene and collected evidence.
