Wichita, KS (December 10, 2024) – Three people were injured in a high-speed crash Monday night on Kellogg near Washington. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that a 2023 Chevy Camaro, clocked earlier at over 140 mph on I-235, was involved in a collision that sent multiple individuals to the hospital.
The crash occurred shortly before 10:30 PM. According to authorities, the eastbound Camaro was lane splitting between the middle and right lanes when it struck a Hyundai Elantra in the right lane. The impact caused the Camaro to roll and collide with a Nissan pickup truck before coming to rest on its roof.
The 21-year-old driver of the Camaro from Valley Center and the 38-year-old driver of the Hyundai sustained minor injuries. A 16-year-old passenger in the Hyundai suffered potentially serious injuries. All three were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The 47-year-old driver of the Nissan pickup was unharmed.
Minutes before the crash, a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper clocked the Camaro at over 140 mph and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the trooper lost sight of the vehicle before the collision. Authorities suspect the driver of the Camaro was under the influence and may face charges, including aggravated battery and multiple traffic infractions.
The crash remains under investigation.
