Westminster, VT (February 5, 2024) – A tragic collision on Interstate 91 claimed the life of a Claremont woman Monday night when her SUV crashed into the rear of a Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) plow truck.
The Vermont State Police reported that the crash occurred at approximately 8:06 p.m. near mile marker 27 on I-91 southbound. Emergency responders, including Vermont State Police, Westminster Fire Department, and local EMS units, arrived at the scene to assist the victims.
The driver of the SUV, identified as 53-year-old Kimberly Barsalou of Claremont, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The plow truck operator, 62-year-old Christopher Becker of Springfield, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Springfield Hospital for treatment.
Preliminary reports indicate that Barsalou’s Dodge Journey struck the rear of the 2015 International 999 AOT plow truck, which was actively salting the roadway at the time of the collision. Weather conditions included light precipitation, and the roads were reportedly wet.
Both drivers were confirmed to have been wearing seatbelts. The plow truck sustained minor damage in the crash. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
