Western, NY (October 21, 2024) – A tragic accident involving a motorcycle and a car occurred on Sunday, October 20, at approximately 1 p.m. on Stokes-Westernville Road. Emergency responders from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene following reports of the collision.
Preliminary investigations revealed that 69-year-old Rick Reed of Rome was riding his motorcycle eastbound on Stokes-Westernville Road when a car, driven by 74-year-old Carol Anderson of Long Boat Key, Florida, attempted to turn westbound onto the same road. Unfortunately, Reed’s motorcycle struck the front of Anderson’s vehicle, resulting in a severe collision that ejected him from his motorcycle.
Emergency medical services transported both Anderson and her passenger, 82-year-old Clifford Anderson, to Rome Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries. Tragically, Rick Reed was also transported to the same hospital but was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
The accident prompted the closure of Stokes-Westernville Road for several hours as investigators from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Reconstruction and Identification Units worked to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. The road was reopened at approximately 5 p.m.
Our thoughts are with the families affected by this devastating accident, and we extend our deepest sympathies during this difficult time.
