Drunk Driving Risks in Connecticut
Driving under the influence (DUI) poses serious risks to public safety, as illustrated by Wednesday’s crash on I-95. Despite widespread awareness campaigns, DUI-related incidents continue to endanger lives on Connecticut’s roadways. In 2022, impaired driving accounted for a significant percentage of traffic accidents and fatalities statewide.
First responders, like state troopers, face heightened risks while performing their duties along highways. Drivers are reminded of Connecticut’s “Move Over” law, which requires motorists to slow down and change lanes when approaching emergency vehicles with active lights.
DUI crashes not only result in legal consequences for offenders but can also leave lasting physical and emotional impacts on victims. Resources are available to support those affected by impaired driving incidents, including access to legal guidance and medical care.
