Westbrook, CT (December 19, 2024) – A tragic two-vehicle collision on Route 1 at the intersection with Hammock Rd N claimed the life of a Clinton resident on Wednesday evening. The crash occurred just after 5:30 p.m. and involved a Honda Civic and a Ford F-150 pickup truck.
State police reported that the driver of the Honda Civic, identified as 76-year-old Michael Leon Sutyla of Clinton, was traveling south on Hammock Rd N when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the Route 1 intersection. The Civic collided with the Ford F-150, driven by a 71-year-old man from Virginia. Emergency responders, including medics and fire crews, promptly arrived at the scene to assist the injured individuals.
Sutyla was transported to Middlesex Shoreline Clinic, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The driver of the Ford F-150 reported no apparent injuries. However, a 70-year-old female passenger in the pickup truck was taken to Middlesex Shoreline Clinic for possible minor injuries, according to authorities.
The accident resulted in the closure of Route 1 for several hours while investigators worked to document the scene and assess the circumstances surrounding the collision.
