West Palm Beach, FL (October 28, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Saturday night involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian near downtown West Palm Beach. At approximately 8:45 p.m., the West Palm Beach Police Department received reports of the collision on Australian Avenue.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a 69-year-old man from Miami was crossing Australian Avenue when he was struck by a motorcycle. Unfortunately, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The motorcyclist, a 27-year-old resident of West Palm Beach, sustained critical injuries and was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center for urgent medical attention.
The incident prompted authorities to close southbound Australian Avenue from Banyan Boulevard to the Okeechobee Boulevard overpass, with the roadway reopening just after 1 a.m. on Sunday. Investigators from the Traffic Homicide Unit are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the accident. At this time, drugs and alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing with potential criminal charges pending.
