West Hartford, CT (January 27, 2025) – A tragic accident early Monday morning claimed the life of a man on Interstate 84 East near exit 44. The crash occurred at approximately 1:30 AM when 30-year-old Tamek Skinner, of New York, was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer.
According to state police, the collision left the two vehicles stuck together on the right shoulder of the highway. Skinner was transported to a local hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. The driver of the tractor-trailer did not sustain any injuries in the crash.
In the wake of the accident, portions of the highway were temporarily closed, including the exit 43 on-ramp and exit 42 on-ramp, to allow for investigation and cleanup. All lanes have since been reopened, restoring traffic flow in the area.
The Connecticut State Police are investigating the incident to determine what led to the fatal collision. Our hearts go out to Tamek Skinner’s family and friends during this difficult time.
Rear-End Truck Accidents in Connecticut
Rear-end collisions involving large trucks are among the most severe types of accidents, often resulting in catastrophic outcomes due to the size and weight of commercial vehicles. Tractor-trailers can weigh up to 80,000 pounds, and their inability to stop quickly makes rear-end collisions particularly dangerous for smaller vehicles.
Interstate 84 is a vital corridor in Connecticut but can pose risks due to high traffic volumes and the presence of heavy trucks. Accidents like the one in West Hartford highlight the importance of ensuring safe driving practices for both commercial and passenger vehicles.
For families dealing with the loss of a loved one in a truck accident, the aftermath can be overwhelming. Understanding your rights and exploring legal options can help bring clarity and support during this challenging time.
