Weirton, WV (October 30, 2024) – A tragic house fire occurred late Monday night, resulting in the death of a 46-year-old man and injuries to two others. The incident took place in Downtown Weirton near Main Street, prompting a swift response from local emergency services.
According to Chief Kevin Himmelrick of the Weirton Fire Department, the emergency call was received at 11:51 PM. When firefighters arrived, they found the home fully engulfed in flames, with significant structural damage, including the partial collapse of the second story on one side of the building. Fire crews worked diligently to extinguish the blaze, which was brought under control within an hour. However, firefighters remained on the scene throughout the morning and into Tuesday afternoon to ensure the fire was completely out and to assist with the aftermath.
Witnesses reported hearing an explosion coinciding with the fire, adding to the chaos at the scene. Two individuals were injured during the incident and were transported to a local hospital for treatment; fortunately, they have since been released.
The fire also caused damage to nearby homes, resulting in melted siding and loss of power in the area.
