Webster Parish, LA (December 22, 2024) – A late-night two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 371 south of Rice Rd claimed the lives of two individuals. The Louisiana State Police (LSP) responded to the scene at approximately 11:50 p.m.
Authorities identified the deceased as LaMarcus Epps, 56, of Cullen, and Damiane Miles, 47, of Dallas, Texas. Investigators determined that a 2015 Cadillac Escalade, driven by Epps, was traveling northbound when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound 2011 GMC Sierra.
Epps, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Damiane Miles, a properly restrained front-seat passenger in the GMC, also died at the scene. The driver of the GMC, who was properly restrained, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
While impairment is not suspected in this incident, toxicology samples have been submitted as part of the ongoing investigation by the LSP.
The LSP issued a reminder to drivers about the importance of safe driving practices, including avoiding distractions and ensuring all passengers are properly restrained. “While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions like these can mean the difference between life and death,” they emphasized.
Head-On Collisions in Louisiana
Head-on collisions, such as the tragic crash on US-371, often result in severe injuries or fatalities due to the high-impact forces involved. Factors such as driver fatigue, distractions, or medical emergencies can contribute to such incidents.
In Louisiana, head-on collisions account for a notable percentage of fatal car accidents annually. The use of seat belts significantly reduces the risk of death and serious injury, yet unrestrained occupants are often among the most severely affected in crashes.
For families who have lost loved ones in traffic accidents, the aftermath can be overwhelming, both emotionally and financially. Seeking professional guidance can help victims’ families navigate legal options and ensure accountability.
