Webster County, MO (November 28, 2024) – A serious crash occurred at approximately 3:57 PM on November 27, 2024, on Interstate 44, about 4 miles west of Marshfield. The collision involved three vehicles, including a 2013 GMC Terrain, a 2000 Honda CRV, and a 2019 GMC Terrain. Emergency responders from the area quickly arrived to provide care for the individuals involved.
The crash unfolded when the driver of the 2000 Honda CRV, a 53-year-old female from Billings, MO, was slowing down due to traffic. The 49-year-old male driver of the 2013 GMC Terrain, traveling behind her, struck the rear of her vehicle. This caused both vehicles to leave the roadway, with the Honda CRV striking a guardrail on the left side of the road. The GMC Terrain then continued off the right side, where it overturned after hitting an embankment. A third vehicle, a 2019 GMC Terrain, driven by a 36-year-old female from Niangua, MO, was unable to avoid the wreckage and struck debris from the crash.
The male driver of the 2013 GMC Terrain suffered serious injuries and was transported by EMS to Mercy Springfield. Another male occupant in the same vehicle, the driver’s 49-year-old passenger, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to Mercy Springfield. The female driver of the 2000 Honda CRV, although not injured, had to be towed along with the GMC Terrain. The GMC Terrain that struck the debris from the wreck was able to drive away from the scene with only minor damage.
The crash is under investigation by Trooper J. Philpott of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. No fatalities were reported in the crash, but the serious nature of the accident emphasizes the potential dangers of driving in heavy traffic conditions. Rear-End Accidents in Missouri
Rear-end accidents are some of the most common, yet they can often have severe consequences. This incident on I-44 in Webster County highlights how a simple rear-end collision can escalate into a more dangerous situation, especially when vehicles are forced off the road and collide with guardrails or other obstacles. In this case, the impact from the rear-end crash caused both the Honda CRV and GMC Terrain to go off the roadway, with one vehicle overturning. Fortunately, none of the individuals involved in this crash suffered fatal injuries, but the seriousness of the injuries sustained by the driver of the GMC Terrain underscores the risks that can come from such incidents.
Accidents like these often occur during times of slowed or stopped traffic, such as when drivers are not paying sufficient attention to changes in speed ahead of them. While it’s critical for drivers to maintain safe distances and avoid distractions, such accidents can be especially common in high-traffic areas like I-44, where vehicles may be traveling at high speeds and come to sudden stops or slow down unexpectedly.
In the case of this crash, the driver of the GMC Terrain could not stop in time before colliding with the Honda CRV. As a result, both vehicles were pushed off the road and sustained significant damage. It’s essential for drivers to always be alert to sudden changes in traffic and maintain enough space to stop safely in case of emergencies.
Missouri’s roadways are no strangers to rear-end accidents, and this crash serves as a reminder of the importance of staying vigilant behind the wheel. Drivers are encouraged to always leave plenty of distance between their vehicles and to be aware of their surroundings, especially in busy or congested traffic. It’s also crucial to exercise caution and adjust speeds accordingly, particularly when traveling through areas with frequent traffic slowdowns.
