Wayne County, OH (October 5, 2024) – A tragic car accident occurred on Friday afternoon, October 4 resulting in the death of a 14-year-old middle school student and injuries to four others. The incident took place just before 4:15 PM on Canaan Center Road near E. Sterling Road in Canaan Township, prompting a response from the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
According to preliminary reports from OSHP, a 17-year-old was driving north when they lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the side of the road, hitting a ditch and two landscape islands before rolling over multiple times. The accident resulted in the untimely death of Aurora Krahenbuhl, a 14-year-old student from Creston.
Emergency responders transported the driver, a 13-year-old, and another 14-year-old to the hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries. A 15-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries and was also taken to the hospital for medical care.
Superintendent Kevin Leatherman of Norwayne Local Schools expressed his condolences in a statement released on Friday evening. He confirmed that all five individuals involved in the crash were students at Norwayne Local Schools. In light of the tragic event, Superintendent Leatherman made the decision to cancel the high school homecoming football game scheduled for that evening.
