Wayland, NY – Fatal Motorcycle Accident on Rte 63 Results in Minor Injury

Wayland, NY (September 13, 2024) – A fatal motorcycle crash occurred Thursday, September 12, in the Steuben County town of Wayland. The accident happened on Rte 63 around 7:30 p.m., involving an 18-year-old motorcyclist on a 2007 Chappy Yamaha and a 2015 Kia Sorento driven by Helen Bertalon, 73. According to New York State Police, the motorcyclist, attempting to pass in a no-passing zone. Collided head-on with the Kia, ejecting him from the bike.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, while Bertalon sustained minor injuries and was treated at UR Medicine Noyes Hospital. Authorities continue to investigate the incident and will provide updates as more details emerge.
