Waterbury, CT (January 13, 2025) – A 56-year-old man has died following an explosion and fire at a home on Horseshoe Drive over the weekend. Emergency crews responded to the scene around 5:45 PM on Sunday after receiving reports of a fire.
When firefighters arrived, they discovered an active fire at the residence. The man was rescued from the home and transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries early Monday morning. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity.
According to police, an unknown explosion inside the home sparked the fire. The cause of the explosion and fire remains under investigation. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, are involved in the investigation. A controlled detonation is planned at the home on Monday to aid in the investigation.
