Washington Twp, OH (January 20, 2025) – A fatal crash involving a Mazda SUV and a school bus on State Route 32 near Sardinia left one person dead and two students injured Sunday night.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 7:37 PM when a 2014 Mazda CX-5, driven by 47-year-old Shawn Wisby of Georgetown, was traveling eastbound on SR-32. The Mazda veered off the left side of the highway, crossed the median, and collided head-on with a 2019 International school bus heading westbound. 46-year-old Julie Ann Williamson of Mount Orab drove the school bus.

Wisby, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two students on the school bus suffered minor injuries and were transported to Mount Orab Mercy Hospital for treatment.

The Georgetown Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash. Authorities have not yet determined the factors that caused Wisby’s vehicle to leave the roadway.

Our thoughts are with the family of Shawn Wisby and the injured students. We hope for a speedy recovery for those affected.

Head-On Collisions in Ohio

Head-on collisions are among the most devastating types of accidents, often leading to severe injuries or fatalities. State Route 32, a heavily traveled road, has seen its share of accidents due to high speeds, driver errors, and challenging road conditions.

In cases where vehicles cross the median, as with this tragic crash, the risks are compounded by limited reaction time for oncoming traffic. Preventative measures, such as wearing seatbelts, staying alert, and adhering to traffic laws, are essential for reducing the likelihood of such incidents.

For those impacted by a head-on collision, it’s crucial to seek immediate medical care, document the scene, and consult professionals to address the legal and emotional ramifications of the accident.
