Five students from the school bus sustained injuries, including bumps and bruises. They were taken to Newton Wellesley Hospital for further evaluation. The occupants of the car did not report injuries at the time of the incident. Emergency responders, including Waltham Fire and Rescue, worked quickly to secure the scene and assist those involved. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by local authorities.
Our thoughts are with all those affected by this incident, and we hope for the swift recovery of those injured.
School Bus Safety and Accidents in Massachusetts
School bus accidents, such as the one in Waltham, are a sobering reminder of the importance of roadway safety for all drivers, especially near school zones and intersections. While buses are designed with safety in mind, collisions involving multiple vehicles can still result in injuries to passengers.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) urges drivers to remain vigilant when approaching intersections or school buses. Vehicles must stop for school buses when their red lights are flashing, as required by state law, to ensure the safety of children boarding or exiting. Additionally, drivers should always exercise caution near areas with high pedestrian traffic, such as schools and universities.
For families affected by school bus accidents, addressing medical concerns and understanding legal rights are critical steps toward recovery.
