Walnut Hill, FL (January 22, 2025) – A crash involving seven vehicles, including two semi-trucks, occurred Tuesday afternoon on a snow-covered and icy Highway 97, about 1.5 miles south of Tungoil Rd. The incident was reported at approximately 2:40 p.m., between Walnut Hill and Dogwood Park.

One individual sustained injuries in the collision and was transported to Atmore Community Hospital by Escambia County EMS. Fortunately, their injuries were not considered serious. Despite the number of vehicles involved, visible damage to the vehicles appeared minimal.

Most of the vehicles, including some first responder units, were immobilized due to the icy conditions. Crews required assistance to safely exit the area. The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the investigation but has not released additional information about the cause of the crash.

Our thoughts are with the injured individual, and we are grateful that more serious injuries were avoided.

Winter Weather and Driving Safety

Although icy roads are uncommon in Florida, sudden weather changes can make conditions treacherous for drivers unaccustomed to navigating snow and ice. Crashes like this highlight the importance of adjusting driving habits to account for slick surfaces, including reducing speed, maintaining a greater following distance, and avoiding sudden braking or turning.

First responders and highway crews work tirelessly in such conditions to ensure safety and clear roadways, often requiring additional precautions due to the hazardous environment.

If you or a loved one has been involved in a weather-related crash, it’s essential to prioritize safety and take steps to protect your rights. Seek medical attention, document the scene, and consult with professionals to understand your options for recovery and compensation.
