Wagner, SD (October 22, 2024) – A tragic two-vehicle crash occurred on Monday, October 21, resulting in the death of a 94-year-old man and serious injuries to an 87-year-old woman. The incident took place at approximately 2:40 p.m. on SD Highway 46, near mile marker 287, one mile west of Wagner.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of a 2021 Subaru Outback was traveling westbound on SD Highway 46 when she pulled over and attempted a U-turn. Unfortunately, this maneuver led to a collision with a 2023 Peterbilt 389 tractor/trailer, which was also traveling westbound. The impact resulted in significant consequences for those involved.
The driver of the Subaru, an 87-year-old woman from Wagner, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was subsequently flown to a hospital in Sioux Falls for treatment. Tragically, her passenger, a 94-year-old man from Wagner, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to Wagner Community Hospital. The driver of the Peterbilt, a 65-year-old man from Piedmont, was unharmed in the crash and was wearing his seatbelt at the time.
