West Haven, CT (December 27, 2024) – A working fire broke out early Friday morning at the Savin Rock Plaza, located at 265 Captain Thomas Blvd in West Haven. The West Haven Fire Department (WHFD) responded to the blaze at approximately 5:45 a.m.

Officials reported heavy smoke emanating from the roof of the second-floor apartments. The fire caused significant water damage due to the building’s sprinkler system activation. One male resident was transported to a nearby hospital by AMR for medical evaluation, though his condition has not been released.

Fire crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and mitigate further damage to the property. Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the fire, and investigations are underway to determine how it started.

Our thoughts are with the injured resident and all those affected by this fire.

Apartment Fires in Connecticut

Apartment fires, such as the one at Savin Rock Plaza, can lead to devastating consequences for residents and property owners. According to the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, structural fires in apartment complexes often stem from electrical issues, cooking incidents, or improperly disposed of flammable materials.

Safety measures such as installing and maintaining smoke detectors, having clear evacuation plans, and ensuring proper use of heating equipment are critical in preventing apartment fires. Additionally, regular inspections and adherence to fire codes can help reduce the risk of such incidents.

Residents affected by fires often face displacement, property loss, and emotional stress. Understanding available resources and legal options can help mitigate the impact of these tragedies.
