Volinia Twp, MI (March 7, 2025) – A two-car crash in Cass County on Thursday afternoon sent a South Bend, Indiana man to the hospital with injuries.

According to Cass County Sheriff Clint Roach, the accident occurred just after 12:30 p.m. on Decatur Road near Dewey Lake Street in Volinia Township. Investigators determined that a 48-year-old woman from Allegan was traveling north when she crossed the centerline into the southbound lane, colliding with a 48-year-old man from Indiana.

Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene and transported the injured man to a hospital for treatment. Officials reported that his injuries were non-life-threatening. The Allegan woman’s condition was not disclosed.

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Head-On Collisions in Michigan

Head-on crashes, like the one in Volinia Township, often result in serious injuries due to the force of impact. These accidents frequently occur on rural roads, where narrow lanes and lack of median barriers increase the risk of vehicles crossing into oncoming traffic.

Factors such as driver distraction, fatigue, or road conditions can contribute to centerline crossings. Authorities stress the importance of remaining alert behind the wheel, especially on undivided highways. Defensive driving practices, such as reducing speed and staying focused, can help prevent these dangerous collisions.
