Winter Weather and Road Safety in New York
Winter weather conditions, including icy roads and snow accumulation, are frequent causes of accidents in Upstate New York. Slippery surfaces reduce tire traction, making it easier for vehicles to skid, especially when drivers attempt to brake or steer suddenly.
To prevent weather-related crashes, motorists should reduce speed, allow extra stopping distance, and ensure their vehicles are equipped with proper winter tires. Black ice can be especially dangerous, as it is often invisible and causes rapid loss of control.
For those involved in an accident, seeking immediate medical attention is crucial—even if injuries appear minor. Additionally, gathering evidence, such as photos of the scene and road conditions, can be valuable when dealing with insurance claims.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a weather-related accident, you do not have to face the recovery process alone. Resources are available to help you navigate your legal and medical options.
