Vershire, VT (March 8, 2024) – A collision on VT Route 113 near Brown Rd prompted emergency response teams early Thursday morning. The crash, reported at approximately 8:47 a.m., involved a 2023 Subaru Impreza and a 2024 Toyota Tacoma.
According to Vermont State Police, 75-year-old Margaret Darrow, of Vershire, was attempting to enter VT Route 113 when she failed to yield the right of way. As a result, Richard Bressett, 74, of Thetford, who was driving westbound in a Toyota Tacoma, swerved to avoid a head-on crash. In his attempt to avoid the collision, Bressett’s vehicle left the roadway, striking a mailbox and a guardrail.
The impact caused significant front-end damage to the Tacoma. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The Vershire Fire Department and Ward’s Garage assisted troopers at the scene as authorities worked to clear the roadway and investigate the crash.
Right-of-Way Accidents in Vermont
Failing to yield the right of way is a common cause of vehicle collisions, particularly at intersections and roadway entry points. In Vermont, drivers entering a main roadway must ensure that oncoming traffic has cleared before proceeding. Misjudging the speed of approaching vehicles can result in dangerous situations, requiring evasive maneuvers like the one seen in this crash.
Accidents of this nature often lead to property damage, insurance complications, and, in many cases, serious injuries. Even when no immediate injuries are reported, drivers should seek medical attention to rule out underlying issues.
When navigating Vermont’s rural roads, it is crucial for all drivers to practice defensive driving, remain aware of traffic patterns, and yield appropriately to avoid collisions. If you or a loved one have been involved in an accident, understanding your rights is essential.
