Vernon County, MO (January 28, 2025) – A serious multi-vehicle collision involving three vehicles and a pedestrian occurred Monday evening on Noah Rd, two miles east of Nevada. The crash was reported at approximately 7:00 p.m. and resulted in serious injuries to a 17-year-old pedestrian.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident began when a 1999 Ford pickup, which had broken down in the westbound lane, was being assisted by a 2017 GMC Sierra stopped in the eastbound lane of the westbound road. A 2001 Toyota Tacoma, traveling westbound, collided with the Ford pickup in a front-to-rear impact, propelling the pickup onto the pedestrian standing nearby. The Ford then struck the GMC Sierra before coming to rest.
The pedestrian, a 17-year-old male from Nevada, MO, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by Cox Air to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for emergency treatment. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma, a 31-year-old male also from Nevada, MO, was reportedly uninjured, although his vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene. The Ford pickup sustained moderate damage and was removed by its owner, while the GMC Sierra suffered minor damage and was driven away.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including why the vehicles were stopped in the westbound lane. Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian, and we hope for his swift and complete recovery.
Pedestrian and Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Missouri
Multi-vehicle collisions involving pedestrians are particularly dangerous, often leading to severe or life-threatening injuries. Situations where vehicles are stopped on roadways, as seen in this incident on Noah Rd, create significant hazards for both pedestrians and other drivers. Missouri law emphasizes the importance of avoiding unnecessary stops in active lanes of traffic to reduce the risk of such accidents.
Pedestrian injuries are often catastrophic due to the lack of protection, and young pedestrians are especially vulnerable in these scenarios. Victims and their families may face physical, emotional, and financial hardships in the aftermath of such crashes, including medical expenses and long recovery periods.
To reduce the risk of pedestrian-involved collisions, drivers are encouraged to exercise caution, especially on narrow or rural roads, and pedestrians should remain aware of their surroundings and avoid areas with active traffic when possible.
