Upper Sandusky, OH (October 16, 2024) – An injury crash involving an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper occurred on Tuesday afternoon at approximately 1:28 p.m. on U.S. 23 in Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County. The incident has prompted an ongoing investigation by the Bucyrus Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Preliminary reports indicate that a northbound Ram ProMaster van, driven by 38-year-old Dara M. Larochelle from Powell, struck the rear end of a marked Chevrolet Tahoe operated by Trooper Jacob M. Teal, who was stationed at the Toledo Post. At the time of the collision, Trooper Teal was slowing down due to traffic conditions.
Trooper Teal sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash and was transported by ground ambulance to Blanchard Valley Hospital for evaluation and treatment. In contrast, Dara Larochelle was airlifted to Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center due to serious injuries sustained in the incident.
Emergency services from the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office, Upper Sandusky Fire and EMS, and the Ohio Department of Transportation provided assistance at the scene. Danner’s Towing and Recycling and Lemaster Towing and Recovery, LLC were also on hand to manage the vehicles involved in the crash.
