Tyre, NY (September 25, 2024) – A serious crash involving two box trucks occurred on the New York State Thruway near Exit 41 in the town of Tyre on Tuesday morning. The incident was reported around 8:13 a.m. and resulted in both drivers being transported to the hospital, with one suffering serious injuries.
According to investigators from the New York State Police, the collision happened when a box truck driven by 42-year-old Justin Rice from Clyde collided with another truck operated by 39-year-old Stephen J. Kettler from Masury, Ohio. Rice’s truck struck Kettler’s from behind, which caused Kettler’s vehicle to veer off the road and overturn on the south shoulder. Following the initial impact, Rice’s truck went off the north shoulder, crashing into a guiderail.
Both drivers were quickly taken to Upstate Hospital for treatment. Kettler sustained injuries, while Rice was reported to have serious injuries. At this time, no charges have been filed, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
