Tyler, TX (December 18, 2024) – A tragic five-vehicle collision on SSW Loop 323 left two people dead and two others injured Tuesday afternoon. The crash occurred at the intersection of West Elm St and SSW Loop 323 just after 1 p.m., according to the Tyler Police Department (TPD).
The incident involved an 18-wheeler and four other vehicles. Investigators revealed that a GMC SUV, attempting to turn north onto SSW Loop 323 from W Elm St, pulled in front of a southbound semi-truck. The semi-truck collided with the GMC, pushing both vehicles into the northbound lanes, where they struck three additional vehicles in the turn lane.
The victims who tragically lost their lives were identified as William Connerly, 82, and Shirley Connerly, 79, both residents of Kerens. Their next of kin have been notified. Two other individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
All northbound lanes of SSW Loop 323 were closed for several hours as authorities, including the Texas Department of Public Safety, worked to clear the scene and conduct their investigation. The road has since been reopened.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the Connerly family and all others impacted by this devastating event.
