Tuscaloosa County, AL (November 25, 2024) – A tragic head-on collision on Alabama 171 claimed the life of an 80-year-old woman and sent two others to the hospital on Saturday afternoon, November 23. The crash occurred around 2:30 PM.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Frederick Kornegay, 81, of Childersburg, was driving with passengers Barbara Kornegay, 80, of Childersburg, and Anne N. Churchwell, 87, of Sylacauga, when their vehicle was struck head-on by a truck. Barbara Kornegay was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of her injuries.
Frederick Kornegay and Anne Churchwell were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa for treatment. Their current conditions have not been released. Authorities have yet to provide information about the condition of the truck driver involved in the collision.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, and further updates are expected as authorities gather more details.
