Turner, ME (January 7, 2025) – A serious crash involving two vehicles left three people with significant injuries Monday evening near the intersection of Turner Center Rd and Bradford Rd. Emergency crews from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office and Turner Fire-Rescue responded promptly to the scene.
The collision occurred shortly before 5 PM when 52-year-old Dana Wessling of Turner, a lieutenant with the Monmouth Police Department, was driving west on Turner Center Rd in his department-issued black 2022 Ford Interceptor. According to preliminary findings, Sean McNeil, 41, of Minot, was traveling east on the same road in a silver 2013 Ford F150. Evidence suggests McNeil crossed the centerline while navigating a curve, resulting in a head-on collision.
Both vehicles sustained extensive front-end damage and were declared totaled. Emergency responders had to extricate Wessling from his vehicle. He was airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening. His 7-year-old son, who was also in the cruiser, was transported to a local hospital by private vehicle for precautionary evaluation.
McNeil and his passenger, a 47-year-old woman from Turner, also sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to Central Maine Medical Center for further treatment.
A crash reconstruction team from the sheriff’s office and Lewiston Police Department was called to the scene to assist with the investigation. Authorities stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Our thoughts are with all those injured in this accident, and we wish them a swift recovery.
Head-on Collisions in Maine
Head-on collisions, like the one in Turner, are among the most dangerous types of accidents due to the high-impact nature of these crashes. Factors such as distracted driving, speeding, and crossing centerlines are common contributors to these incidents. Maine’s rural and winding roads, especially those with sharp curves, can pose additional risks for drivers.
Victims of head-on collisions often face severe injuries, extensive medical treatments, and long recovery periods. Seeking legal and medical support is crucial for ensuring proper care and pursuing compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, and emotional trauma.
If you or someone you know has been injured in a serious collision, obtaining professional guidance can provide clarity and support during the recovery process.
