Turner County, SD (October 21, 2024) – A tragic two-vehicle collision occurred on Saturday morning, resulting in one fatality and serious injuries to another driver. The incident took place at approximately 11:17 a.m. on October 19, at the intersection of SD Highway 46 and Highway 19A, located 12 miles west of Beresford.
Preliminary reports from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicate that a 45-year-old woman from Laurel, NE, was driving a 2018 Ford Explorer southbound on SD Highway 19A. She had stopped to turn left onto SD Highway 46 when the driver of a 2018 Ford F-150, a 19-year-old woman from Woonsocket, SD, was traveling northbound on SD Highway 19 and failed to stop at the stop sign. The two vehicles collided, resulting in both vehicles ending up in the northeast ditch.
The driver of the Explorer was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the F-150 sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported for medical care. Both drivers were reported to have been wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
