Tulsa, OK (March 7, 2025) – A tragic accident occurred in downtown Tulsa on Friday morning when a man was struck and killed by a train near 1st Street and Denver Avenue.
According to the Tulsa Police Department (TPD), officers responded to reports of a train hitting a pedestrian at approximately 10:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they found that the train had stopped, and the victim was trapped underneath. Sadly, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Investigators believe the man was attempting to cross the tracks, possibly trying to avoid one train, when he was struck by another. It remains unclear why he was attempting to cross at that time.
This tragic accident occurred just 150 yards from the location of another fatal train accident involving a pedestrian earlier in the week. Authorities urge pedestrians to exercise extreme caution around railroad tracks to prevent further incidents.
Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Train-Pedestrian Accidents in Oklahoma
Pedestrian-train accidents are often fatal due to the size and speed of trains, as well as the limited stopping ability of locomotives. Downtown areas, such as 1st St and Denver Ave in Tulsa, see frequent train traffic, making it critical for pedestrians to follow all safety precautions when near active railways.
According to the Federal Railroad Administration, dozens of pedestrians lose their lives each year in train-related accidents across the country. Many of these incidents occur when individuals attempt to cross tracks outside designated crossings or misjudge a train’s speed and distance.
Authorities urge pedestrians to always use designated crossings and remain alert around railroad tracks. Trains can approach faster and more quietly than expected, making it difficult for pedestrians to react in time.
