Tukwila, WA (October 9, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred late Monday night, October 7, on State Route 99, resulting in the death of a 56-year-old man and serious injuries to another individual. At approximately 11:30 p.m., Washington State Patrol (WSP) troopers responded to the scene of a two-car collision near 116th Street.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a Chrysler 300 on its side and a Nissan 370Z that had come to rest upright. Preliminary investigations indicated that both vehicles were traveling side-by-side when the Chrysler swerved into the Nissan, leading to both cars rolling onto the right shoulder of the roadway. The impact caused significant damage, and both vehicles were deemed totaled.
The driver of the Chrysler, a 24-year-old man from Detroit, was reported to have been speeding and driving under the influence at the time of the accident. His passenger, a 24-year-old woman from Kent, sustained injuries and was transported to Valley Medical Center for treatment. Fortunately, both occupants of the Chrysler were wearing seatbelts, which likely mitigated their injuries.
Tragically, the driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt, which may have contributed to the severity of the outcome. Authorities have not released his name pending notification of his family.
The WSP has referred charges of vehicular homicide and DUI to the King County Prosecutor’s Office for the driver of the Chrysler. The road remained closed for nearly seven hours as investigators worked to gather evidence and clear the scene.
Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time.
