Tucson, AZ (December 4, 2024) – A fatal motorcycle crash occurred on Tuesday, December 3, around 4:40 PM at the intersection of E Broadway Blvd & N Venice Ave. The Tucson Police Department responded to the scene, where the motorcyclist, identified as 60-year-old Marc Ian La Brack, sustained life-threatening injuries. La Brack was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital but was later pronounced deceased.
According to Tucson Police, La Brack was riding westbound on Broadway Boulevard at a speed greater than the posted 35 MPH limit when he collided with a 2023 Subaru Forester. The Subaru, driven by a 61-year-old woman, was traveling eastbound on Broadway and attempting to make a left turn onto N Venice Ave. The driver of the Subaru was uninjured and fully cooperated with the investigation.
An officer from the DUI Unit responded to the scene and confirmed that the Subaru driver was not impaired at the time of the crash. The investigation suggests that the motorcyclist may have been traveling in the bus lane and was speeding. The crash also involved the Subaru’s failure to yield while turning left.
Our condolences go out to Marc Ian La Brack’s family during this difficult time.
Motorcycle Accidents in Arizona
Motorcycle accidents, especially those involving high speeds, often result in serious injuries or fatalities. In this case, the motorcyclist’s speed and possible lane violation appear to have contributed to the fatal crash. Intersections like E Broadway Blvd & N Venice Ave are especially hazardous for motorcyclists, who are more vulnerable in collisions with larger vehicles.
Speeding and failure to yield are common factors in many vehicle crashes in Arizona, and both can lead to tragic outcomes. Motorcyclists are encouraged to adhere to posted speed limits and drive defensively, particularly in areas with heavy traffic. It is also vital for riders to wear helmets and protective gear, although La Brack was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
For drivers, making sure to yield when turning and being extra cautious at busy intersections can prevent accidents. The Subaru driver’s decision to turn left across oncoming traffic highlights the importance of carefully checking for all vehicles, including motorcycles, before making such maneuvers.
