Township of Fairfield, WI (October 10, 2024) – A tragic hit-and-run accident occurred in Sauk County on Tuesday evening, October 8, resulting in the death of a cyclist. Just after 5 p.m., authorities reported that a cyclist was struck by an SUV on Levee Road near North Hein Road. The impact caused the cyclist to be thrown from the bike and into a nearby ditch.
Witnesses stated that the SUV did not stop after the collision and continued driving away from the scene. A second cyclist who witnessed the incident immediately stopped to help, calling 911 and performing CPR until paramedics arrived. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as 61-year-old Christin Harding, a resident of Baraboo.
Following the incident, authorities located the suspect and the maroon 2003 Honda Pilot he was allegedly driving on Tritz Road in Columbia County around 6:45 p.m. the same day. The 31-year-old man from rural Baraboo now faces multiple charges, including hit-and-run involving death, homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle, operating without a valid license, causing death to another person, operating a vehicle without insurance, and failure to notify police of a crash. He is currently being held in the Sauk County Jail.
