Topeka, KS (October 8, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Saturday evening, resulting in one fatality and serious injuries to two individuals. The incident took place at approximately 5:08 p.m. on northbound US-75 highway, about three miles south of Holton in Jackson County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2007 Honda CR-V was entering US-75 from a private drive when it failed to yield to a northbound 2019 Toyota Rav4. The Honda was struck broadside by the Toyota, leading to devastating consequences. The driver of the Honda, 77-year-old Dianna Faye Slavens of Topeka, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that Slavens was wearing her seat belt at the time of the collision.
A passenger in the Honda, 89-year-old Alva E. Goff Jr., also from Topeka, was transported to Holton Community Hospital with serious injuries. It was reported that Goff was wearing his seat belt as well.
The driver of the Toyota, 38-year-old Jamie Lynn Wells, also of Topeka, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Holton Community Hospital for treatment. Wells was alone in her vehicle and was wearing her seat belt during the crash.
